2. Appropriate peers A defined group of genuinely comparable schools.

3. Benchmarking Measures placed within their peer distribution.

4. Comparative position Index, ranking, quartile and movement.

5. Management insight Evidence that helps direct questions and investigation.

Methodology note: Some GAUGED measures are nationally comparable proxies derived from published data. For example, Implied Teacher Contact Ratio is derived from published pupil-teacher ratio and average class size data; it is not a timetable-derived ICFP contact ratio. Relevant product pages explain these definitions where they are used.

100 = Peer Median

Each Index is centred on 100, representing the median performance of the relevant peer group.

Evidence, not a verdict

The reasons for a difference still require context, professional judgement and, where appropriate, further investigation.
